For those of you trying to make an easy transition into the world of raw fish, I think Ceviche is where you should start! And that’s because the fish in ceviche is usually cured in some blend of citrus juices and seasoned to make it so flavorful, that you’ll forget it’s uncooked. This seafood salad originated in the coastal regions of Latin America & is usually accompanied with other sides. But if it’s really good, it can serve as your whole meal. Like it did for me at GT Fish & Oyster recently.
Now I’ve been frequenting this restaurant for many years and have never left dissatisfied, but this was the first time I tried their Sunfish Ceviche and.... was blown away!
GT Fish & Oyster is certainly among the top seafood places in Chicago & is especially known for their seafood small plates. In addition, they also specialize in an oyster bar (with around 2500 oysters on hand every night), and a great wine selection. The ceviche is by far my favorite at this eatery. Mixed in with a tantalizing mix of tarragon, chimichurri & pickled garlic – it’s tangy without being overpowering. And surprisingly it’s filling… if you’re not starving!
While I would expect nothing less from chef/partner Guiseppe Tentori, who is always looking for unique ways to mix modern and classic in the same menu, he has outdone himself with this dish! Nom! Nom!
