Luke’s Lobster undoubtedly stole the show at Chicago Gourmet this year! The Seafood Pavilion, itself was probably the most popular with the longest lines at the event. When Luke’s Lobster ran out of their lobster rolls, they replaced them with their shrimp rolls; which quickly became the new favorite. I spoke to at least 4 people in line, who were going back just for seconds or thirds. So despite running out of patience, I decided to stick it out and see what the fuss was all about.
Shrimp rolls are often like the stepchild in comparison to the more glamorous Lobster Rolls. But Luke’s shrimp roll was quite possibly more satisfying than any average lobster roll I’ve eaten in my lifetime. There I said it! And, as a food enthusiast, it got me wanting to learn & share more about this often forgotten sandwich. The roll was served with chilled shrimp on a toasted/buttered New England style split-top bun, with a light touch of mayo, a little lemon butter and the perfect amount of spices. After gobbling this very delicious roll, I was determined to learn more about this restaurant.
Turns out, the shrimp rolls are so popular that Luke’s Lobster actually sells a make your own Shrimp-Roll-Kit for $30.00. The kit can be shipped overnight to you or a friend as a gift. Don’t believe me? See for yourself.
Hopefully after trying their shrimp roll, you may begin to see this toasty as much more than a poor man’s lobster roll!
I was also impressed at the owner Luke’s commitment to sustainable seafood. I learned that they donate a portion of their proceeds to the Maine's Lobstermen Community Alliance, an organization dedicated to uphold the regulations that keep the Maine fish robust and healthy.
